“ When we are looking for something gluten free on Green street, we know this is the place! It's easy to customize your bowl. I chose chicken and rice/greens mix. The bowl is so large you might have leftovers. It's a little bit like "Chipotle" in that you get to choose what you want. It's delish! We make sure to stop every time we pass through Champaign! ”
“ As someone who loves mediterranean food, shawarma joint is definitely going to be a go to place from now on. I ordered a stuffed pita and it was SO delicious. Everything in it tasted amazing and I have zero complaints. The service was pretty good too. As we were leaving they gave me free falafel and it was so yummy. Also if you are a student at uiuc you get 10% off if you show your icard!! I went pretty late at night so they werent that busy but the shape of the restaurant seems like it could get packed pretty easily. Either way I am still coming back here soon because it was so so good! ”
“ My go-to lunch spot on campus! I've been here multiple times and the food never disappoints. The restaurant is on the smaller side as it's located on a busy street, which makes take-out a more viable option, however, dining in is still an option with plenty of seating. The restaurant layout is made to accommodate multiple students during a lunch rush, however, the staff still continue to provide friendly customer service. Sometimes they hand out free falafels with your meal! Even though it does get busy, I would recommend coming here for their discounted lunch special which includes a drink and a side of fries or soup. The lunch special bowl is slightly smaller, but still has more than enough food. (their regular sized bowls are large enough to share). I also would recommend opting for hummus or lettuce as a base as opposed to rice, and trying their delicious garlic sauce if you get a chance. Seriously love this place! ”
“ Just passing through Champaign on our way to visit family northeast of here and tried Shawarma Joint based on the positive reviews. It was great! The bowl was plenty of food to share with my teen daughter. My husband could stay keto by having lettuce instead of rice. The meat was tasty. Lots of toppings to choose from. Staff were helpful and even gave us some free falafel before we left! It's a small place yet has seating available. Looks clean. Cafeteria style (order at counter and tell them what you want). Definitely recommend this place. ”
“ There are actually 2 locations but the other doesn't have a Yelp page. I love going to Shawarma Joint in Urbana (102 E University). It's such a large portion that I never finish it all and get a second meal out of it! There is a lunch special as well. You move through the line and pick what you want like Chipotle. Sometimes they'll give falafels along with my bowl :) It is pretty clean inside, and I don't see too many people eating in usually. The location on campus is okay as well but I don't go as often. ”
“ This place was delicious! A long line at lunch on a Saturday, but it moved fast. I ordered a bowl, with yellow rice and chicken, and it was so tasty. The chicken was moist and had a great flavor. Lots of toppings to choose from, it's like 10 pounds of food. I also paid $1.50 extra to try the falafel with it. You get a lot of food, and can customize just the way you want. Would be a regular at this place is I was a local. ”
“ Delicious every time. Ol reliable. My boyfriend and I love to come here and go on dates to eat, super casual and quick. All the employees are so fast and give heaping portions. I get the gyro bowl with yellow rice, grilled eggplant, tabouli, baba ganoush, grape leaves, sometimes feta and pickled onions, and lots of tanini. Sorry if I'm spelling that wrong. I go at least twice a month honestly and I will keep coming back. ”
“ Amazing flavor, so fresh and delicious! Great customer service. Highly recommend. I'll be back next time I'm in town! ”
“ This was some seriously delicious food. I popped into this place for the first time on a Saturday night. Staff were nice and friendly, making suggestions when I asked. I ordered a chicken shawarma bowl over a bed of hummus, which comes with five toppings, a falafel pita, which comes with three toppings, and a side of fries. The hardest part of your visit will be choosing which toppings and sauce you want! There were so many good options. I added the red cabbage, banana peppers, baba ganoush, and tahini sauce to the falafel pita -- would 100% do that again. The side of fries was SO generously sized and was only $2.99. Before I left, the store added falafel, pita, and Jerusalem salad to my order, on the house! That was so kind of them, and was mouth-watering. The interior of the restaurant had ample seating and was very clean. My food was made to order very quickly, and they made the fries fresh for me. I would absolutely come back here on my next visit! ”
